At Oak Ridge Cemetery, families always have the option to purchase pre-need interment rights, and opening and closing fees.
The opening and closing fee includes several services including record keeping, assistance of office and grounds staff, equipment maintenance, site restoration, etc. By purchasing interment rights and opening/closing you will be locking in the current rate and avoiding possible future price increases.
At-need refers to the time of death. Anything that is purchased at-need is being done so because the loved one has passed and the family is making arrangements.
The Chapel Mausoleum, located just inside the main gates on the right side, offers indoor burial for both cremated remains and full size burials.
Inurnment is when cremated remains are placed in the ground or in a niche.
Oak Ridge Cemetery offers several options throughout the cemetery for the inurnment of cremated remains.
The Chapel Mausoleum, which houses several hundred crypts and niches, was built in 1974 and an additional was completed in 1991 expanding the building by two additional corridors. This also allows fore space for columbaria. The crypt and niche faces are made up of Spanish and Italian book matched marble.
The Abbey is the older mausoleum and it was completed in 1910. It has several hundred crypts, some of which are still available for purchase. In the 1980's, two columbaria were aded in the East end of the building, one on either side of the entrance. All of the niches are sold out in the Abbey.
Entombment is when a full size burial is placed in the Crypt (in a Mausoleum, whether indoors or outdoors, but Oak Ridge does not have outdoor Crypts for full size burial.)
Cremation is on the rise because of cost issues and some families do not necessarily think of burying the cremated remains. The fact of the matter is that cremated remains can be inurned in the ground or above ground in a columbarium. This allows the family to have a place of remembrance to visit if they so choose.
Oak Ridge Cemetery Chapel may be used for visitation before the committal service for a fee of $400 per hour
All arrangements must be made with Oak Ridge Cemetery a minimum of twenty-four hours before the service. Notice for Monday services is required by Friday at 12:00 noon. Notice for Sundays or Holidays must be by 12:00 noon the work day prior to the service.
